What do you think of Numicon?

Have seen it in the classroom. DS tells me he does not play Numicon because the table is always busy (he is in the Reception Year). I have checked the Numicon website and it looks very expensive. Actually it reminds me of the dominoes. So, I wonder whether anyone owns it and can tell me their opinion on this game. Are there cheaper alternatives? Is this game a hit or just a fashion?

Wow thank you ferguson
it was me...I have been advised that would help my daughter but as it is rather pricy I thought I would test the mums....I have bought it now from Amazon

You need to update your MN Profile in that case, as you didn't have children before!?

What Yr is/are she/they?

[Putting the year of birth, for adult or offspring, avoids having to update Profiles. It's a pity more MNers don't give SOME information in their Profiles.]

Hope you didn't pay too much for Numicon, and that you get good use from it.

For those still interested in this thread you can now buy copies alternatives to Numicon. which are cheaper e.g..

The reason numicon is so expensive is because the pieces that are are of equal value weigh the same e.g 4 and 6 weigh the same as a 10 piece. This makes it a fantastic resource for reinforcing number bonds. I use numicon ito teach, reinforce and consolidate learning. It's brilliant.

Well I never knew that Billabong! Right I'm off to have a play!

Abbicus wins everytime. Very tangible and real. Its a shame the old and best methods have been dropped becasue people dont know how to use them. The abicus is a powerful tool for complex calcutlions too.
