What's the next writing target after connectives?

I was wondering if anyone can help.

My DD's teacher gave her a writing target of using connectives a little while ago.

I have recently noticed that she is using them quite spontaneously now - not all of them of course but the main ones - "and", "but", "because", "then", "so", etc

I was wondering what was the next target - I am sure the teacher will send one back soon, but as she is writing a daily diary I thought if anyone had any tips I could look out for other things as a "next step".

Thanks in advance!!

It very much depends on what she needs to work on next. There are lots of things a child needs to work on within one sublevel/in the next sublevel, but not all of them will be ones your dd finds difficult, ifyswim. The teacher will know her written work well, and will therefore be able to see quite easily what she needs to do next, but it's impossible to predict online!

Targets are personalised, not listed somewhere in progression. Your child's teacher will assess her work as she marks, and identify something she needs to work on next.

Ah ok, fair enough, I thought they were in some sort of subsession. We'll just wait for the next target then! I can see she still has a lot of work to do on her spelling, so we can focus on that for the time being!!!!

Thanks all the same!!!

My DD's teacher told me to focus on connectives (had completely forgotten that until I spotted your post!) and starting sentences in different ways - Suddenly... Then... etc etc, and using interesting words generally (like 'strolled' rather than 'walked' etc). She also seems to be doing inverted commas now.

I don't actually do anything with her, though - I just read things she writes and say 'Oh that is a good word.' etc.

In primary school they seem to focus on VCOP - vocabulary, connectives, openers, punctuation.

Openers are what Greeninkmama is referring to - it's a good way of getting them to vary their sentences by fronting adverbs etc.
