Can anyone tell me at what age a child would usually be able to correctly recognise visually and understand the concept of numbers 11-99??

Many Thanks.

I'd say year 1 but with some children doing it in reception.

I'm sure a teacher/mum will be along soon.

My DS, 4.6, has been able to do it for a while, but has a particular passion for numbers (and Top Trumps, which has helped!).

My DS is just turned 4 and it shocked the hell out of me when he did it this morning. We spent the rest of the journey taking turns to challenge each other.

DS is 5. Is almost there with writing 1-100 in a grid but does need more work with his addition, subtraction and other math skills but I don't have any concerns. Most of this stuff is easy to teach belongs they are "ready". I've been guilty or trying to teach things too soon before now.

DS wrote 1-100 in the summer before he started Reception. They asked him to count to 10 on his first day and wouldn't stop till he got to 100. However, I don't know if he understands them because if I say "I want you upstairs by the time I count to 5" there's normally zero response Grin
