DS- should I worry or just chill?

Hi everyone- this is my first time on this message board- all help is gratefully received.

My son is quite an articulate 7 year old in year3. His teacher has recently said that he struggles with his work in class and I was just wondering if, in your experience, this is something he will grow out of..

He doesn't always leave spaces between words when he writes, his spelling isn't great and the formation of some of his letters is still a bit dodgy. We read at home every night and I think his reading is ok for a child of his age.

I do not believe in putting pressure on your kids at home- I want him to be happy and not permanently stressed.

What do you all think? Should I be worried or just leave it alone and see how things are in a couple of months?

Thanks

If his teacher has mentioned it, it's probably worth doing something at home, even if it's not too pressurised. Maybe get him to help write shopping lists, write a note for the milkman, just the general bits of quick writing which don't need to take too long. Give a gentle reminder to remember to leave spaces otherwise it's hard to read, etc, before writing.

I think it is perfectly possible to do some work at home on it without putting pressure on and having him permanently stressed.

do you know if it's unusual for boys of this age to produce written work of this quality? I do do writing with him at home and we are always reminding him of "finger spaces" etc. The problem is, he is starting to become resistant to us interfering. I don't want to switch him off.

Thanks for your help

my 7 nearly 8 ds is similar, terrible spelling for example. He's moving onto the additional literacy support scheme at school for the next 8 weeks which is great news. maybe your school does something like this?

They do offer those sessions. I am hoping that my DS will be offered something too.
I feel frustrated for him though. I feel he is a square peg in a round hole. thanks for your reply and good luck
