Library Books

Hi there,

Just wondered if everyone else (especially those with 3 or more kids) manages to get all homework, home readers and school library books read/completed each week?

I have been very aware that DD hasn't touched her library book in weeks. She does change it each week. Looks like the teacher has noticed this to after commenting to DD, understandably, that library time isn't for just choosing a book and not reading it (feel like the worst mum). DD sounded upset that she was the only one not reading her book because they were asked as a class. I will also add that she is taking out books that she is unable to read by herself.

Each night we spend 20 to 30 mins reading her school book. DS reads his book which takes less time and then I read to them a few times per week.

Their bedtime is too late as it is but to find quiet time only happens when number 3 is in bed. He turns 2 in the Spring and doesn't stop. At weekends when DS is napping we try and get the English or Maths homework done.

Anyone got any views? Thanks in advance.

p.s she also gets her spelling done with she can and will do on her own with a little prompting.

I have 4 kids and I have no idea when I last read dd3's (my 4th) libary book. difference is the school doesnt ask either.

I would ask the school to aid your dd to aim for books she can tackle herself that should perhaps solve it. Or could you read her libary book together with your 2 year old ?

I dont worry so much about it as I know dd3 gets plenty of reading done as does her other siblings so I am less concerned about libary books

Thanks Lonnie.

I think your suggestion is a good one. The only reason she mentioned it was because the teacher had said something in class and I did feel bad because I didn't exactly feel it was her fault that her book hadn't been read. I think working at the boys not interrupting is going to be a thing we have to work on over the coming months and then it might get easier.

I'll ask DD to see if she can pick an easier book and briefly mention it to the teacher in a casual way.

Thanks for the sounding board. :)
