Hi,
My nephew is in Year 4 and a fairly good reader (enjoys the Harry Potter bks). His teacher has said that he needs to read more widely and be able to discuss.

Can anyone make some good recommendations for a yr 4 boy?
It's been quite a while since I last taught and Ive been asked to advise.
thankyou

The Little Vampire series! They are awesome and very cool. Plus the little vampire (the main character) is a boy! A sure plus!

Hope he enjoys them!

Could you take him to the public library, just let him browse & browse?

StormRider (Anthony Horowitz) books.
Connor Clover series (trilogy), and other books by same author.
Michael Morpugo is often recommended about this age (but must say I find them a bit turgid).
Jeremy Strong books are short but fun reads.
Artemis Fowl series, and others by Eoin Colfer.
Biggles books for aeroplane & war fans.
ATM, DD (yr4) is racing thru the Horrible History series.
DS (yr6) is devouring the Warrior Cat series, but says it's "too sad" for a child in Yr4.

All my kids are big fans of TinTin, Asterix and Star Wars comics.

My Y4 son is obsessed with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Before he wasn't really a huge reader, but now can't put the books down. I'm not complaining though....

What about some good non-fiction books too? DS spends hours reading and looking at the pictures in some of the big Dorling Kindersley wildlife, space or ocean books.

Does he have his own dictionary? DS got one for Christmas and loves it - carries it around as if it's a prized possession. Loves telling me his word of the day!
