Pathetic question about on line applications

kattyo · 10/01/2011 20:06

This is pathetic, and I should be able to work these answers out myself.

But:

  1. Do I have to submit the birth certificate, housing benefit, utility bill and council tax info before the January 15th deadline, or can I submit it after I've submitted the application on line?
  1. Is it possible to scan and submit these documents on-line (I can't see anything about it on the e-admission form).
  1. I am applying to my two closest schools. I'm in the catchement area of the further one (this year, anyway) but not of the nearer one (which is more popular). There's a remote chance I could get into the closer one, which is my preferred choice, so I want to put it down as a first choice. Will it prejudice my chances of getting into the further one, if I put down the nearer one first? Or should I put down the one I am more likely to get into first just to be on the safe side. (If I don't get into either of these schools i am in sink school, left-over territory).

Thanks!

Can't remember re the first 2, but the info should be on your council's website.

As to the third, the schools don't find out what your preferences are. The schools allocate places themselves in accordance with the listed criteria. The preferences are only there so that if you get offered both (by the schools) the LEA would offer you a place only at the one you'd listed first. So putting either school first won't prejudice your chances of getting into the other one. My advice is to put the one you want most first.

For our school applications we didn't have to take any documents until after the place had been awarded. Then we just gave them to the school to be photocopied.

Agree with coppertop, if and when you get the offer you produce your evidence- we ahd to take it to the school during February

We haven't had to provide a thing.

Just list in order of preference and you're allocated according to the admissions criteria. They give you the school that is the highest on your list and has a place for you.

We applied via online eadmissions form.
It was only once we submitted the form were we asked to provide copies of council tax or mortgage statement AND documentation of child benefit or child tax credit.
These could be attached to the form as PDF or JPEG.
Or, you could photocopy and post to them.

The admissions officer told me that after 15 Jan, you would not be able to attach any further documentation online. Not sure if this means you'd be a 'late applicant' if you emailed or posted documentation after 15 Jan though.

I've not come across a council wanting that much information before! Which council are we talking about here? If you are uncertain whether you need to submit these documents at this stage and how to do so, ask your council. You don't want to get it wrong!

Putting the closest school down as your first choice will not affect your chances of getting into your catchment school.

We had to take the documents to the town hall at time of application- made online appln pointless! Ring LEA and check.
