Have a child in yr 1 in a faith school over 3 miles away. She seems happy enough but is quiet and does not seem to have made any firm friends. We have now been offered a school 5 mins walk away which logistically as a family would be better as have child 2 would start 2013. Travelling such a distance has always concerned me as she is not making friends in local area and feel that they are both missing out long term. Academically both similar altough concerned current school is possibly struggling. Sunday school can be attended to make up for not attending CoE school. We are worried about the impact on the eldest, will she find it all too upsetting? Just scared of making wrong decision.

Moving schools has been an excellent experience for all 3 of my children.

I moved school a lot as a kid. It only really bothere3 me once I was secondary school age. I had to move ds1 for similar reasons you have stated during reception last year and I worried myself sick about it. I hardly slept for a week before.

First day he went in slightly apprehensively but never mentioned his old school again. It is so much better for us as a family.

PLus all the kids love the novelty of a new child at this age and all want to talk to them.

Good luck.

At infant age I would say that they are pretty adaptable. Sounds like the school 5 mins away would be a better choice for all of you, so I'd go for it.

Shes very young yet...I understand the fears as I have been wanting to move my DD for a while now...I am probably going to move her for year three...she's currently in year 2....I think that it's best to get moves done with before the age of 9 or 10....prior to that they're very adaptable.
