Tears before school - second term in Reception.

DD1 is the youngest in her year but has always happily bounced into nursery and school until yesterday. She cried for half an hour yesterday morning and was still sobbing when I left her. On collection, she was bouncingly happy and enthusiastic.

This morning she was putting on a brave face but was wobbly and tearing up again. SHe fell into the routine readily enough and took her place on the carpet but was clearly fighting back tears.

I can ascertain no specific issues with friends or teachers or the environement, so I am putting it down to her having some difficulty with making the transition back to school after the holiday. I am trying to be supportive and make sure she feels safe and secure - that she is back in her routine. (She likes rules and structures.)

Academically she's holding her own (in so far as she loves her phonemes and making circuits etc..) but I think this is highlighting how much younger she is than some of the others. She just doesn't have any emotional resilience at the moment - which just isnt like her. There isn't anything more I can do but just sit it out and hope she feels more cheerful, is there?

My dc are always a bit wobbly about going back to school after the holidays. I wouldn't worry too much. If it persists for a while or if you think that she is upset because of other things then perhaps have a word with the teacher.
I'm sure she'll be fine. My dd is the second youngest in her year so I know what it's like to have a 'young one'.

Thanks for your reassurance. I'd pretty much reached that conclusion but its good to check it out with others.
