A lunch boxes/bags question...

Hi there - I am just about to start making lunchboxes and am off shopping later. My question is... those lunchbags you see everywhere - do they not get a bit manky? I assume you can't pop them in the dishwasher, don't they get all crummy round the edges?

Also, what happened to lunch boxes?!

DC is 5, if it makes any difference!

I put dd's in the washing machine with no washing powder and a gentle spin. The advantage of bags over boxes is that when you drop them on the ground they don't fall open spilling the contents everywhere.

we have hard lunch boxes, just wash out - tried to find an amazon link, but can't find.

I suppose I'm just thinking about our cool bag which does not look particularly savoury.

Am also thinking about the trauma I will inflict should DS turn up to school with tupperware when everyone else has Ben10 merchandise Wink

Get the Ben10 merchandise! (Or whatever else your child chooses)

And then make sure it's really well labelled - because all the boys will have the same lunch box :)

They go through the washing machine fine. I tend to do them every half-term, as they don't get too messy. Everything goes in (any easy to open) tupperware box which fits inside.

The worst enemy is juice cartons which tend to leak the dregs into the bag. I use refillable bottle now.

Also they are better insulated and if you put an icepack in they keep perfectly cool to lunchtime, e en when sat on a trolly in the junior corridor that is baking hot.

Bags are easier as they are squishable, not a great trait I know, but as OYBBK said, they don't pop open.
I rinse her's out everyday when I remove the shit from inside and leave it to drain oevrnight. then tupperware box and bottle inside.
I always put a frozen yoghurt tube thing in DD1's and then it chills everything else. And always get the lunchbag they want, although my DD got picked on for having a toy syory 3 bag (which she begged for) as it was blue, and therefore the boys one Hmm She is 4!

We have lunch bags which we put through the dishwasher rather than the washing machine.

Get a collection of small plastic tubs and boxes
one that holds a sandwich, one that holds biscuits, one that holds cut up apple
etc
the inside of the bag then stays roughly clean (I use the thermos zip up lunch bag with DD name written on the top in tippex)
but can be flash wiped
boxes go through the dishwasher
minimal waste
we used to use the OJ cartons from Lidl
but now do squash in a rinsed out each day bottle.
