Maths Level 5 vs KS2

I wonder if any of the teachers on here can clarify something for me.

I keep reading about kids targets are to reach level 4 by the end of Year 6, but that many get Level 5, but yet many kids in later years are only at Level 5.

How much of Level 5 maths is covered in KS2? Is it just certain strands of maths, or is the whole Level 5 curriculum available for Year 6.

When a school reports that they have so many children at Level 4, and so many at level 5, what grades are standard for these measurements?

I realise that some schools extend their kids to do KS3 in Year 5/6 but I am more interested in what Levels are actually covered in KS2.

I hope some of you can help me.

Many thanks.

Primary Mathematics framework
There is no limit on the level that can be taught in primary school it is determined by the child's progress.
It is a bit of a misunderstanding that Level 4 is a target for the end of KS2 ...it is not! The government says "Level 4 is the level expected of most 11 year olds."
Remember KS2 Y6 tests are externally marked

'I keep reading about kids targets are to reach level 4 by the end of Year 6, but that many get Level 5, but yet many kids in later years are only at Level 5.'

The worry would be if they were the same children, but they are not. I have strong level 5 children in my Y6 maths at the moment, and they will have made more progress by the end of the year. I also have some at level 3. They will also make progress, but are unlikely to be a 6 by the summer term.

Thank you.

I suppose I am trying to understand whether the list of itemised targets listed for a Year 6 are all Level 4 questions, or all Level 5 questions, and if not, which ones are different.

And how do you know which are Level 4 questions and which are Level 5?

I have seen data which lists Level 4, Level 5, and I have seen data which lists Year 4,5,6, etc., but no data that marries the two together at a glance.

Ok fair enough.

I am trying to compare the UK curriculum with another country, but they have different layouts and breakdowns and thought it might have been an easy quick answer. Sounds like its not.

Thank you anyway

Can I ask which country you want to compare with?

Doesn't MathsWhizz give you all the answers you need with regards to what your children do and don't know?
