School wouldn't let DD1 go to the loo....

As a bit of background DD1 has had a few urine infections before and is still getting over one after a bad bout of constipation at the moment which means she feels like she needs to wee a lot, like once an hour. I realise this can be a PITA but she is 4.10, she doesn't understand that there isn't anything there.

She was in the school rehearsal today and apparently went to the loo once and then a bit later asked to go again and was told no. She then wet herself a little bit in her knickers.

I only found this out when she was undressing for bed and I saw her knickers and the fact that her bum is red raw. She said they were then wet all afternoonSad

It wasn't her teacher who said no, and she doesn't know the name of the teacher, so what do I do? Call reception and say she is to be allowed to go when she asks? Is that too PFB?

when my child (6) has to go he has to go! he never really goes to the loo in school at all but is sometimes caught out. He has been told 'no' twice and twice unhappily wet himself. the school have been really understanding and said that he can now go when ever he wants to go.

I dont understand why teachers do this.

Making a small child wet theselves infront of the rest of the class.

Would they like to be made to wet themselves in front of colleagues? Its stupid.

The teacher she asked didn't know she had a UTI.

She had already been twice, in a, presumably, relatively short period of time.

They were possibly, in the middle of doing their part of the rehearsal.

I can understand why the teacher might have asked her to wait.

The teacher didn't deliberately make her wet herself (as BeenBeta seems to be suggesting).

I'm sorry your dd was sore and uncomfortable. Her teacher should have mentioned it to whoever was leading the rehearsal.

A quiet word from your dh will be more than sufficient.

Also, I think you need to do some work with your daughter to help her speak up for herself and explain when she has had an accident, or needs some help with something. I've done some role play with my dd in the past when she didn't know what to say in certain situations.

?Thanks for all your advice.

We sent a letter into school as neither of us could get there this morning and her teacher is (as expected) very upset that it had ?ahppened and has made sure that it won't happen.

I don't think for a second that the teacher made her wet herself in front of the class, but I do think that any child under the age fo 5 that asks to go to the loo shoudl not be refused permission. Ever. Without exception. Luckily the school agree.

Now I have to deal with the child who is telling her 'he is going to kill her'. Nice.
