Broken arm, ds making a fuss over nothing

My ds broke his arm very badly at school yesterday (it was in an after school sports club). When I turned up to collect him (at the end of the club, I wasn't called) he was sat in the classroom on the teachers lap screaming and screaming. The teacher said she thought he was just making a fuss as he was able to wiggle his fingers (which he could do but barely and he couldn't grip). I took one look at him and immediatly knew his arm was broken, it looked like a banana Shock. He certainly wasn't making a fuss. I went back to the hall to get his stuff and my dd and the guy running the club asked if ds was ok. I told him I was taking him to A&E and he said I was making a fuss and he was a first aider and that there was nothing wrong with my ds. My ds was screaming that blood curdling scream they do when they're in agony and his arm looked like a banana.

I'm rather concerned that the person who was the first aider didn't recognise an obvious broken arm and that him and the teacher just thought ds was making a fuss (hence why they didn't call me). Thankfully it was only 15mins from the accident to me picking up anyway but what if it had been longer? Should I say something to the school about the 1st aider or am I expecting too much from them? This sports club I think is a seperate enterprise that comes into the school, it certainly wasn't a staff member running it. I don't know if I'm being a bit pfb?

If it just happened a few minutes before the end of the session then ithink YABU.You were on your way !The teacher was comforting and calming down your DS on her knee until you arrived-what more would you have expected them t0 do?
Perhaps it was obviously broken by the time you saw it, but it mighn't have been straight away. It's not always obvious-that is why hospitals need x-ray machines!!

I disagree, princessparty. DD1 wasn't quite right at school, so they took her temperature at 2.45, 15 minutes before the end of school. It was 38.4c so they PHONED ME to say her temp was up and cold hands, would I like to come and get her? (She goes to a Special School, so comes home by minibus) I didn't go because by the time I got there she would be part way home, but that was my decision to make.

They didn't comfort Rebl's DS until his Mum came, they sat with him because he was too distrught to do anything else, but told Rebl he was just making a fuss. They should have PHONED her so that she was aware and could make arrangements to take him to A&E if she felt it necessary.

It would have been reasonable for them to say 'he is crying a lot, but he is able to wiggle his fingers' (FACT) but not 'he is making a fuss over nothing (JUDGEMENT).

princessparty Seriously it was so bent there is no way anyones arm should ever look like that.

Thats really awful. The whole makig a fuss over nothing attitude is terrible.

I fell and hurt my wrist at soft play - I could wiggle my fingers and use mmy hand. I had torn ligaments and needed an operation.

Rebl, are you any further towards getting a Statement for your lovely boy? I think this is one example of why he needs one. People don't seem to be understanding him or his needs at all, do they? Sad

lougle The ht wanted to wait until Christmas. I'm trying to "play the game" iykwim, thinking it would help to have the school on side. Quite frankly they are on very thin ice and they know it. It will be interesting to see how the conversation goes with them about getting ds back to school. I struggle to see how they are going to be able to accomodate him and keep him safe at the moment.

Rebl :( cannot believe the way they spoke to you/treated your DS.

Glad HT is active about this at least.

You know you can request a Statement process without waiting for them?

I think you need to suggest bringing it forward, Rebl Sad
