are there any really good sites for online tutoring for a 6 and 7 1/2 yr old?
I wanted one that monitored their progress and that they would enjoy too!

any recommendations?

I've reviewed Education City and Maths-Whizz on my website. Here is my Education City video review and here is my Maths-Whizz video review

Basically I think that Edu City has a great price point and covers 6 or 7 subjects (I think) but is basically a very hi-tech practise program - I feel it doesn't teach enough to be used as an online tutor.

Maths-Whizz is more expensive and only covers maths, but is a serious alternative to having a maths tutor. The topics are explained well and the parent reporting system is excellent.

Education City has a free trial on their website. Maths-Whizz randomise their free offerings but there is a link on my website for a free child assessment to work out your child's maths age and 5 free lessons.

One of my little one's is trialling Reading Eggs (thanks to this forum) and that may help with reading and spelling.

Most of these online programs offer free trials and those that don't you can cancel after the first month. The best way to see which one is best for your child is to try them.

Hope this helps Smile

What subject are you interested in? And why (is your child behind / ahead / off school....?)

greedygreedyguzzler · 06/11/2010 08:59

interested in all subjects for my dd. she was streets ahead of everyone else last year in reception and this year she isn't being pushed at all she is just being left to get on with it (because she can!) i have brought it up at school, but they are more focused on bringing the less able children up to where they should be.
she is so keen to learn and very able so i thought some sort of tutoring would be good for her. i don't want her to stagnate this year!

my ds on the other hand desperately needs help with spelling, because he is hopeless at it!!!

Caroline - have you trialled The Study Ladder? Someone appears to be peddling it on another thread and I wondered if it was any good.
