Cursive handwriting for adults

DS1 (age 5) is starting to write words and we're encouraged to get him to use the cursive style. However, it's made me realise that my handwriting is just awful. Does anyone know if there are any writing sheets available for older children to learn joined up writing which I could use?

Check with the school what their cursive style is and just try to use that. There are so many variations in terms of how you form (and join) f, looped g/y, looped or straight k that it's probably just worth getting hold of the school's letter formation guide and starting to follow that when modelling writing to your son.

I have to squint through books on supply sometimes to work out that particular school way of forming some letters in order to write them correctly on the board!

Thank you emptyshell. I've got the style that DS1 will use, but I want something which I can use for my own writing which is compatible with his cursive, but which is easy to join up and look stylish. Apparently, the cursive script he uses is difficult to join up and having tried it, it is.

I hope that makes sense!

It really is just practise to do it really. WHSmith or whatever should have a load of handwriting type books (I got some really nice attractive ones once which I think were from Smiths that I've misplaced and been looking for for at least three months now). I keep a diary, and when I went into teaching - I forced myself to write cursively in an up to date cursive style (we were taught quite old-fashioned letter formation at my primary school which I refused to use) in it until it became semi-instinctive.

Writing in pencil is easier as well because of the friction of the pencil point on the paper slowing you down slightly.

To this day I still hate my handwriting with a passion and get so jealous of colleagues with really neat teacher writing.

Oooh thank you emptyshell. I'll do a search (I've got a book token to use) and order from my bookshop.

I will have good handwriting!
