OMG I thought it was an inset day. Only realised when his teacher asked if him if he was sick and we all looked at her as if she was mad.

Because he only started at the school just before half-term I didn't get the newsletter. I found it online and obviously didn't read it properly. Just looked again and it says inset day 29th November Blush

Oops!

muddleduck · 02/11/2010 11:09

I love it when other people do stuff like this. Thanks Smile

lollipopshoes · 02/11/2010 11:12

I normally do the opposite and take them into school when school is clearly closed.

Oh, I did that when DD1 was in Reception. Fortunately, I realised before lunchtime, and she had a doctor's appt in the morning so I got away with it. Still felt a complete fool, though.

telsa · 02/11/2010 11:25

I did that once. Felt soooo stupid.

DreamTeamGirl · 02/11/2010 14:03

Ooops!

IS quite funny tho Grin

scurryfunge · 02/11/2010 14:05

I have sent DS to school on an INSET day once.

Changebagsandgladrags · 02/11/2010 16:17

What do I do now? Write a note/just leave it/move schools/get DH to give up work and do pick-ups Grin

Best write a short note of apology. This sort of thing happens, and all the easier if you didn't have the newsletter.

GrimmaTheNome · 02/11/2010 16:26

DD once missed the first day of term because they changed dates but hadn't updated the website. She wasn't the only one, and still got full attendance cert for that year.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 02/11/2010 16:28

Did they not call you to ask where he was? All the schools near me ring home if a child isnt in school by a certain time. DS's school text!

Don't worry about it though, just apologise to the teacher and explain what happened, he wont have missed much its only early days.

I have sent DS to school in uniform on a non uniform day and had to race home to get him a change of clothes before. Grin

ChasingSquirrels · 02/11/2010 16:30

oh well, I wouldn't do anything. These things happen.

notagrannyyet · 02/11/2010 16:35

I turned up for a parents evening on the wrong day once. I did feel a bit of a prat but these things happen.

Hulababy · 02/11/2010 16:39

Teacher will laugh :) Don't worry about it. Write a note and explain briefly - so the absence is "covered" for register purposes, but don't worry.

Changebagsandgladrags · 02/11/2010 20:38

Oh yes, they did send me a text, but I didn't get it till today when I got back from school. Phone had run out and didn't bother charging it as I had the DSes with me in soft-play Blush

I've sent my children on INSET days, and I almost gave DS the day off on Monday because I had an INSET day and thought it was both of us written on my calendar.
Teachers may laugh, but most of us have done something along similar lines.

Maybee · 02/11/2010 20:48

I did that and got a call from school wondering where ds was at 10am! I was a bit mortified as I teach too but in another council. Anyway I got him dressed and packed him off to school but he was so cross as we had planned to do fun things! Don't worry it happens. i trurned up 24 hrs late for a parents eve last year!

NoahAndTheWhale · 02/11/2010 23:21

My mum thought my sister had an inset day once when she didn't. I was at secondary school down the road from the primary school and they sometimes had different inset days. My mum took me to school with my sister in the car. Then we saw people in her uniform walking past.

My mum just took her back home and pretended she had been ill BlushGrin

I have a friend that didn't look at the clock properly and walked her DD to school, wondering why it was so quiet. When she got to school it was all dark and locked up. It was 8am!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, how I laughed.

Me, I never ever do stuff like that Hmm

Hey, you know what? Its good to be less than perfect.
