Ds2 read "cat" earlier. "c - a - t. C-a-t. Cat! it says cat!"

I'm so ridiculously proud, I almost feel like he has landed on my planet now GrinWink

I know how you feel Colditz. I couldn't get my ds to blend despite spending months and months of trying. Then one fine sunny day, he said 'm-a-n that says man mummy'. I was so proud i almost cried. That was the turning point and my ds is now reading.

wey hey! well done ds. I remember that feeling. Will they ever get it and all of a sudden it's there. is this the point someone says my dc did it when they were....?
no? oh well. Grin

Welldone to your Ds!!!

Will they ever get it and all of a sudden it's there.

Exactly! If only we could relax!

sarararararah · 29/10/2010 22:09

Woo hoo! I always nearly cry when the children in my Reception class master this (especially the ones who have found it tricky). It's fantastic, isn't it!

CardyMow · 01/11/2010 22:43

DD was 8yrs 4 months when she managed this. I was immesurably proud, as she'd been working so hard on it for so long. YAY! For Colditz's DS.

Teacher401 · 01/11/2010 23:00

Well done! Bless him, congratulations!

yawningmonster · 02/11/2010 08:30

Well done to your ds, we are still in the 'will he ever get it' boat with ds but stories like this give me so much hope. At the moment he memorises and then just chooses a random word for those he doesn't know (doesn't even reliably choose a word with the correct starting letter)!!! Can't wait to write a post like yours!!

It was towards the end of P2 that ds (over 6 and a hlaf at the time) finally "got" it. This was despite 6 weeks of intensive 1:1 tuition with the depute head - before we decided he just wasn't developmentally ready.

Up to that point, he just learnt all the books off by heart and "read" them that way Hmm

He is now 10 and free reads for pleasure :) He has just finsihed "Dairy of a Wimpy Kid: the Uugly Truth" wich technically doesn't come out ontil 10 Novemrber but I pre-ordered it from Amazon and for some reason we got it last week.

It's a lovely feeling when they do get it :)
