My DD of 5.5 years is struggling with her reading. Just wondered if anybody has tried Reading eggs? We are currently on the free 14 day trial which she enjoys but would like to know if it is worth buying. Thanks

Hi, We paid for the year for DS aged 5.5. He has really benefited from it. He enjoys the games and it has helped him with blending and recognising double letter sounds, ending sounds etc, He has just completed level 9 and is still enjoying it.
The maps only seem to go upto 10 though, so If your daughter makes progress quickly and enjoys doing it (DS has done 1 lesson a day) it might be worth only paying for 6m and not a year.

Reading Eggs is Australian and my husband (and therefore in-laws) are Australian and got a subscription plus the reading materials and workbooks for my DS for his 4th birthday. He really enjoyes it, especially working towards cracking open each 'egg' at the end of the exercise. He is still quite young and I've found that it suddenly gets a lot harder at the end of map 2 so he's got stuck there as he can't pass the 'quiz'. I think that's a good idea because it means he has to go back and re-do some of the exercises and gets a proper grounding in the basics of the letters before he can go on. The workbooks which you can get to support it are good too as it helps with writing and forming the letters.

The one thing I would say is that sometimes the exercises can be a bit repetitive (like finding 6 of the 'letters' in a wordsearch type grid) - my DS tends to moan when these ones come up but he still does them so he can get his 'critter'!!! I would agree about paying for just 6 months rather than a year though.

I just tried the trial with dd1, who is Y2 and 6. She found the level they put her on (she got all the test questions right) very boring, and doesn't want to play it any more. I think the younger one (nearly 4) would enjoy it, but is it any good for older kids??
