mrz, sorry to hear about your ankle, that sounds really rubbish. Still think this was more likely down to a junior/poor doctor or a hospital which was trying to cut back on x-ray costs, though.
I was really replying to Cory?s post about whether to take a child to hospital or not rather than what a hospital might or might not do ie an earlier stage in the process, if you like.
goldenticket I would always be much more concerned about a child who was quiet than one who was bawling their eyes out, it?s more likely to indicate shock which in turn is more likely to indicate a serious injury.
Other signs would be, as you say, a marked tendency to favour one arm (or leg), swelling at the impact point, lack of bruising, being off food/drink.
None of these are decisive, of course, but all would be indicators that it was at least worth a trip to the hospital to check it out.
