As the title says, how do you find out about the NC levels? My dd is y1...would like to know what she "should" be and how the levels are achieved.
Cheers

Thanks mrz...is there a really basic table or info...read a lot of posts where people say my child is 1c or 2b....etc. I'd like to understand that sort of stuff. DD has parents eve next week and I'd like to feel informed about this type of thing beforehand!

In very simplistic form maths at Level 1

Pupils use mathematics as an integral part of classroom activities. They represent their work with objects or pictures and discuss it. They recognise and use a simple pattern or relationship.

Pupils count, order, add and subtract numbers when solving problems involving up to 10 objects. They read and write the numbers involved.

When working with 2-D and 3-D shapes, pupils use everyday language to describe properties and positions. They measure and order objects using direct comparison, and order events.

Pupils sort objects and classify them, demonstrating the criterion they have used.

So, my dd finished reception with 8/9's so where would you expect her to be now? I'm guessing it all becomes clearer as you go along?!
Thanks Wink

1C

emy72 · 13/10/2010 20:03

I can confirm what mrz said, as my DD1 finished reception on all 9s and has now been assessed at 1c.

Hope this helps!

Thanks emy (and mrz) do you know what a child is expected to do at level 1c and what is the next level? Would next level be y2? It seems really confusing!

mrz a quick question; you have said before that the EYFS scores and NC levels are different and shouldn't blend into each other at the end of reception, that I understand. So what criteria is a level of 1c on entering reception based on? Is it purely on reading level ie blue/green book band, or is it a combination of things? I know you have said that all 9's on the EYFS does not equal a 1c, so can you just clarify for us numpty's what does. Thanks.
PS DD in YR2 now but just curious and have never seen her EYFS profile.

If a child has achieved all the ELGs in reception (either while still in reception or when starting Y1) they will begin working towards level 1 NC following the NC programme. In order to achieve a 1C they need to meet NC criteria
Reading book levels/bands would contribute to the teacher's assessment but would only be a small part of the evidence the teacher would use to award levels.

Reading level 1

In some reading, usually with support:

some high frequency and familiar words read fluently and automatically

decode familiar and some unfamiliar words using blending as the prime approach

some awareness of punctuation marks, e.g. pausing at full stops

some simple points from familiar texts recalled

some pages/sections of interest located, e.g. favourite characters/events /information/pictures

reasonable inference at a basic level, e.g. identifying who is speaking in a story

comments/questions about meaning of parts of text, e.g. details of illustrations diagrams,
changes in font style

some awareness of meaning of simple text features, e.g. font style, labels, titles

comments on obvious features of language, e.g. rhymes and refrains, significant words and phrases

some simple comments about preferences, mostly linked to own experience

a few basic features of well-known story and information texts distinguished, e.g. what typically happens to good and bad characters, differences between type of text in which photos or drawings used
