Are they an ECO school?

Are they a healthy eating school?

Do they do BLP (building learning power)and say things like 'collaborating' or 'capitilising' wuth regards to brain muscles?

Do they do 'Talk for Writing'?

Are they a 'Rights Respecting' school?

Just wondering.

I think we're ECO - if that means occasional strange questionnaires about how often you flush the loo, and a "green week".

Faaamily · 10/10/2010 15:32

We do Talk for Writing, the rest sounds rather Happy-Clappy to me!

LostArt · 10/10/2010 15:35

Yes to healthy eating. But after seeing the school lunches, I'm not too sure.

Is the 'Talk for Writting' where children discuss a topic at home with their family and then write about it at school? If so, yes, but we haven't had a topic to talk about yet.

No. Not any of them. We do have recycling drives and a garden...but none of those things you mentioned.

Ticks for Eco and Healthy Eating, also Philosophy For Children, a Forest School, and Mantle of the Expert.

Why were you wondering?

magicmummy1 · 10/10/2010 15:43

Ours is a healthy eating school and an eco-school. I think it is also an "international school" or something like that.

Never heard of BLP or Talk for Writing. I would like to think that all schools respect rights! Hmm

OnionBhaji · 10/10/2010 15:45

Because we do ALL of them and I think it is ridiculous! As well as all the other things teachers have to do, they have to 'take on' one of these extra duties and then we get checked on them by the Eco people or the RR people. There has to be a display in EACH class on BLP, RR etc and teachers have to say things like 'Remember we are a RR school and we respect the rights of others to be able to learn....'

Ofsted are due in and I think the HT wants to tick as many boxes as she can!

We also do Walk to School week (next week).

Hassled what is Philosophy for children, Forest school and Mantle of the Expert?

Forest Schools - maximising outdoor learning.
Mantle - use of drama/role play etc to learn.
P4C

It might just be an Ofsted box ticking exercise - but more likely is that this part of the school's Improvement and Development Plan, and that the Head is looking for imaginative ways to deliver the curriculum and to get a good sense of a school community. If the initiatives are overloading staff though, you need to talk to the Head about that.

Walk to School will die a death soon enough - Travel Plan funding (which is sort of linked in with this) has already gone in my county. I do see WTS as a bit pointless - the children who are driven to school are almost always driven by parents on their way to work. But you can't really claim to be a Healthy School if you're not seen to be actively encouraging walking to school.

stoatsrevenge · 10/10/2010 17:17

Hmm to brain 'muscle'. Someone told me that it's metaphorical the other day but it annoys the hell out of me!

We're 'Talk for Writing' and healthy, and we're just starting forest school.

We're also a 'change school' under Creative Partnerships - our last year of 3.

None of them - they used to hand out healthy eating lunch box stickers which seemed at odds to the teacher giving table of the week a big bar of chocolate Hmm

NoahAndTheWhale · 10/10/2010 17:37

Think it might be healthy eating. The classes have Eco-warriers so might be Eco. Not sure about the others.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 10/10/2010 17:44

Our pre school does forest school. I have no idea about the rest. Could be healthy eating as we got in the news letter hte other day, this Helpful Advice,
"The school cook provides healthy nutritious dinners. Packed lunches are however often not healthy. Please make sure you put healthy foods in your childs packed lunch."

Ok, thanks for that insightful advice!

TheFallenMadonna · 10/10/2010 17:49

Yes
Yes
WHAT?!
Eh?
Never heard of it.

mrz · 10/10/2010 17:54

forest schools

TheNextMrsDepp · 10/10/2010 17:59

Yes, we are ECO.

Err....that's it.

LilyBolero · 10/10/2010 18:06

ECO - yes
Healthy eating - yes
BLP - yes
'Talk for Writing' - not heard about that
RIghts Respecting - no idea

NickOfTime · 10/10/2010 18:12

onion, yes. pretty much all.

except they don't do the building brain muscle thing, they do 'activate' first thing in the morning and first thing after lunch, which i suspect is pretty much the same thing anyway.

the school foyer is littered with meaningless shields and badges/ certificates.

needless to say, school is 'outstanding' ofsted.

new ht in, and suspects that some of these may be binned in the future in favour of, well, learning. she's in the process of deciding which provide benefit to the students, and which are mere box-tickers.

sensible lady.
