So what 'stereotypes' do I need to look for amongst the other parents at the school gates?

Just wondering as I saw someone refer to a 'Queen Bee' on another thread and I thought ooh yes, I definitely know who that is at my DS's school'.

What others are there?

I am probably the 'harassed working mum' Wink

I was quite enjoying this thread until it turned into far too much bitching and boasting.

Pixey · 13/10/2010 15:29

OHHH NO - I'm Ranting Righteous Right-On Mum. To the letter. What shall I do. Is there counselling a support thread?

Lizcat · 13/10/2010 15:32

I'm unable to decide what my title is, but I know we have a 'glass half empty mum' in our class, she moans about everything.

Gay40 · 13/10/2010 15:35

This is one of the best threads ever. LeQ - I'll buy that book!

Tomorrow I'm taking a pad and pencil to the school gate.

Gay40 · 13/10/2010 15:37

We have Manly Dad of obviously will be gay son, who drags his effeminate lad along with him in a hurry, trying not to argue about princess dresses.

UnquietDad · 13/10/2010 15:41

norfolkbroad - definitely recognising your DH's categories!

We have mums with preschooler on scooter/balance bike who then whizz round the playground at top speed and take out anything in their path.

Dad who I think was once a patient with something embarassing wrong with him but I can't remember what.

Nice friendly dad from up the road who I avoid talking to because I haven't had sex in nearly a year and would likely develop and instant and embrassing crush on him.

I am definitely aloof mum because I'm a bit shy and really enjoy sitting in peace and quiet for 5 minutes. Dd is good friends with I'm Going To Blank You for No Good Reason mum. Probably we're both a bit shy and think that the other is REALLY unfriendly Grin.

would it be too cruel to stereotype the children?

I've got 3 weeks before baby #1s here and you're already making me scared of school gates! Blush I'm an American ex-pat with no clue how the school systems work here, my only experience in the UK was getting my MSc, I wear sunglasses 80% of the time cause I have sensitive eyes, my husband works from home and has long hair... we wear t-shirts and jeans 95% of the time... Gah, over thinking!

I'm so scared about the school gates now! I'll have to borrow mum in law for the first few weeks to show me what to do or we'll look like 'the weird, always together, haven't got a freaking clue what's going on, freaked out hippy couple who dont work' Please someone tell me you actually talk to these parents before sticking the lables on?! Other wise I'm screwed

carriedababi · 13/10/2010 17:59

perhaps i'll start with "bossy brat".

that always TELLS other children what to do, "NO like this" "no do this" "do that"
never interacts/talks normally

while the parent looks on proudly, saying little emily is very assertive

LittleCheesyPineappleOne · 13/10/2010 18:16

She's always called Emily, isn't she?

liath · 13/10/2010 18:33

LeQueen, I suspect I'm really just Can't be Arsed Mum too. Or don't have the emotional energy to spend trying to cultivate superficial friendships Mum.

Nuttybear · 13/10/2010 18:36

carriedababi No because I only have an angel Smile

overmydeadbody · 13/10/2010 18:49

What about the mum who is a teacher at the school her DS goes to mum. She's a rarity.

Gay40 · 13/10/2010 19:43

Vegan Mum:eeds a good wash, both body and clothes (home-made), and hasn't brushed her hair since giving birth in a field under a full moon.

Vegan Mum's kids wolf down burgers when they go to parties.

twinklingfairy · 13/10/2010 19:46

Don't worry edemane you will meet lots of mummies at toddlers groups etc. You will know some people before you ever make it to the school gates (and prob have labeled a few of you ownWink)
Don't stress it right nowSmile
Much more exciting things to come than the joy of standing at a school gate.

Gonesouth · 13/10/2010 19:46

Sorry if this has been posted before but I have a distaste for what I call the 'Merciless Mums'.

Given up a good career (DHs earn loads) to concentrate on getting their DCs on in life. Their mantra is always about winning, always being first, always giving 110% (have a personal dislike of that phrase Smile).

The children are sent to every after school sport/club going, attend classes at weekends and have their spare time monitored. Losing is not an option for these kids Sad. Even their freindships are controlled. t always feels a bit to me like brainwashing.

I love the look on these mother's faces when they find out that my DCs are high achievers and we have done none of the above. They just don't get the fact that our DCs have personalities... and a life of their own. I've been asked: "What do you mean?, you taught your children to swim yourselves?"

And I should add that these Mums seem to have had a sense of humour bypass.

I will be Absent Mum as I will always be at work (as a teacher and therefore moaning about bloody parents) during the school run.
