Asked to come in about a few things-Reception DD

Had a note in dd contact book saying could we come in and see the teacher about a few things. DH and I are really panicking about this. DD has always been good at nursery (on the whole anyway)and she has given us no suggestion that anyting is not going well. Got stickers/stars etc. Is it bound to be bad? What could it be? It is so scary!

When DS1 was in reception this happened to me - the teacher was worried he couldn't see properly because he frowned at the white board and other things. I'm afraid DS1 is just frowny - not bad tempered but just frowns a lot, he has 20:20 vision so far.

So what I'm saying is it could be about anything - not necessarily something to worry about at all.

I hope it is nothing too bad. I have spoken to dh about a calm reaction if it is something like she is a bit talkative etc. I am a secondary school teacher and now understand how I make parents feel!

I shouldn't worry. Do they have formal parents evenings? If not it may be that he just wants a chat with you in lieu of that. It could be something good too so try not to worry

Oh it would be nice if it was good-shouldn't think the worst should I!

I want to know what it is now too Grin

Hope it's nothing too bad - I'm sure you'd have heard about it if she up to something particularly worrying like hitting other kids.

Do come back and tell us.

mummynumnum · 04/10/2010 21:51

I will. She did say she hit someone the over day as they screwed up her work. I was w
Surprised as this is very unlike her!

I really wouldn't worry. DS has been to see the headmaster twice and he's only 5! He has done loads of things from peeing in the playground behind a tree at breaktime because he was too lazy to go inside (we really don't do that at home!), to drawing a picture in someone else's English book

Try not to worry but it's the story of my life at the moment - you are not alone!

Teach said she is not always doing as asked, ie: coming in from yard and suggested we get hearing tested. If not that then prob stubborn and need to work on listening skills!!

We were called in because my DD hd a MASSIVE tantrum...a real humdinger that no teaher could break...fast forward to the end of year one and she wins the class prize. Don't worry....I bet half of the average recetion parents are called in about something or other.

mummynumnum · 05/10/2010 19:04

Thanks. She prob has selective hearing like a lot of children her age!!!

Are you going to get her hearing tested? I say this only because I think reception teachers are particularly skilled at picking up hearing problems. My dd's teacher mentioned to me in the first week that she thought dd had issues hearing, and it turned out she had quite significant glue ear which was impairing her hearing to a great extent. Grommets sorted it and she's fine now, but just wondered if this could be something similar. FWIW I hadn't picked up on the hearing problem at home because she'd got very good at lipreading, however in the chaos of a reception classroom it became more obvious....

mummynumnum · 10/10/2010 20:42

Yes as she used to be under ent and had ear probs so we have asked her to re-referred.
