Just out of interest, at what time do your children have lunch in school?

And are you happy with the arrangements?

reception go at 11.45am, year 1 go at 12.15pm
yep all ds wants to do is eat quick and get out to play!

DramaInPyjamas · 04/10/2010 20:47

12.30, no problems with that at all.. That's what time theI give them lunch at the weekends and school holidays anyway.

emkana · 04/10/2010 20:51

apparently the trend is for schools to have lunch later, not at 12 anymore - so our school is moving lunch half an hour back to 12.30

My school:
infants 11.45
juniors 12.00 (to give the little ones a chance to get settled first)

DDs school:
infants 12.00
juniors 12.30 (but only because the hall isn't big enough to fit them all in)

Works well in both school - and yes, I'm happy with it.

sageygirl · 04/10/2010 21:04

12:00 - 12:15 infants and 12:15 - 12:40 juniors.

Seems good to me - they always nag for lunch by midday at home so I'm sure it suits them.

Having it later must make for a long morning and short afternoon emkana - to me it seems a bit odd - the day wouldn't be as balanced timewise.

simpson · 04/10/2010 21:05

12.00 and yes I am happy Smile

Hulababy · 04/10/2010 21:40

At the infant school I work at the lunch break starts at 12 noon. Depending on which sitting they will eat betweenn 12 and 12:30pm.

DD is in Y4 and the juniors part of the school go into dinner second. The infants go in just before 12, the juniors abou 20-30 minutes later.

Seems fine.

Ragwort · 04/10/2010 21:45

No idea - are you saying that 12.30 is too late? I always think school lunches are far too early - I wouldn't want lunch at 12 noon.

weelllll....Grin

my child is four
we're talking infant school
I can't make up my mind if 12.30 is better than 12 or not!

pro - children are fresher in the morning, more opportunities to structure the morning meaningfully

con- they will be very hungry!

Lunchtime is from 12pm until 1pm.

Children either on 1st sitting at 12 or second sitting at 12:30 - changes each week. Doesn't seem to make any difference to DS (year 2) or DD (reception)

sunnydelight · 05/10/2010 00:55

12.30 which I think is just about right. "Morning tea" is at 10 and everyone has a snack then to keep them going.

Astrophe · 05/10/2010 00:59

My DD starts school in feb, and they have lunch (1 hour break) at 11am, and then an afternoon break at 2pm ish, for 20 mins.

ChippyMinton · 05/10/2010 09:36

Midday, but in reception it's earlier - 11.45.

emptyshell · 05/10/2010 10:06

Varies where I work - they tend to get reception in early (probably because some take forever) - anywhere from 11.45 (relatively unusual) to 12 for infants... seen juniors from about 12 (but by the time the infants are all through and fed more like 12.15) to 1pm lunchtime break start.

After years of teaching my stomach starts to object if it's left beyond about 12.30!

Giddyup · 05/10/2010 10:11

No idea!

amidaiwish · 05/10/2010 10:18

11.45
what i do think is ridiculous is that the lunch break ends at 1.25!

why not have 1hr 10 for lunch and finish school at 2.45?

redskyatnight · 05/10/2010 10:29

Reception - 12pm
Y1 - 12.20pm
Y2 - 12.35pm

Doesn't seem to bother anyone.

Gubbins · 05/10/2010 11:44

I have no idea other than the reception children are usually in the lunch hall first.

It's never even crossed my mind to find out, but then lunch at home can be anything between 12 and 2.

I'm happy :)
