What have your DCs taken to school for 'Show and Tell'?

DS1 is in reception and has 'Show and Tell' for the first time this morning. He wanted to take a few photos from his holiday, so that's what he's taken today.

He has to do this every week now, so I was just wondering what other objects get them chatting? It would be good to have a few ideas up my sleeve.

DD is way past this, but has in the past taken a bag of rice, some couscous and a tomato. I think lack of planning and forethought went into the last three. She has taken more 'normal' stuff in though, toys and books etc. I'd love to know what she told about the tomato, she's never willingly had one near her mouth.

Littlemad did this for the irst time yesterday and took a copy of the periodic table...he explained it as well.

I'm sure the rest of the children in reception were fascinated and enlightened...

): :)

My dd took in her recorder and played them a tune when she was in Y2. She'd been going to an out of school music club for a few months. She's really shy so it got her out of saying much. She also showed them her music book and told them what the notes were. It was the best one she's ever done, and she got a certificate in assembly for it. Most of the kids just took toys so I think the teacher was really pleased.

DD is in pre school and they do 'show and share'. I let DD pick what she wants to take in. So far she's taken her teddy, her library card and a balloon.

At the DC's school they have to take something related to that terms topic which is a complete PITA by about week 2.

There are only so many interesting, related things you can find connected to some topics.

LionsAreScary · 05/10/2010 21:31

a copy of the periodic table?! A shark fetus?! Blimey. Don't think we have either of those handy as we rush out of the door on a Friday morning.

We are lazy and unimaginitive show-and-tellers in this house and DS usually just takes a toy or book about lego or star wars or lego star wars. He and his mates kept taking lightsabers until the teacher banned them.

beautifulgirls · 05/10/2010 22:39

Same as NorbertD here, we have to take things related to the topic. Tomorrow DD is taking an empty milk carton...feel the excitement!! (topic is food this term) but she did ok last week when she tapped my mum for some fresh stuff from her garden and took in a stick of rhubarb, a strawberry with leaves and a ripening tomato.

In yr 4, when the S&T was more of a production, one lad brought in his cricketing gear. The teacher said to leave out the box Grin

HeadFairy · 05/10/2010 23:18

Another one with a theme SandT.. this week it's "getting dark", I'm stumped, some irritating little kid has already done the torch thing, ds hasn't got any toys of animals that hibernate (unless fire engines hibernate?) He's done a particularly fetching picture using nicely coloured leaves he's picked up on the way home from school, so that might at a pinch do it, leaves falling off trees, Autumn, it's getting dark....

{blush] henpecked by my 4 year old

Aethelreada · 06/10/2010 16:10

fossils and tat etc, and a rabbit scull complete with green mould. The teachers were so pleased :o

MaudOHara · 06/10/2010 16:25

My very boden yummy mummy was horrified when she found out that her DD had sneaked in a Macdonalds toy for show and tell Grin

proudnglad · 06/10/2010 16:28

Kreecher Grin

My dd took in a nature book today. I was so impressed and smug considering all she does at home is play football with her db or wrestle with the cat (in db's Y-fronts)

MaudOHara · 06/10/2010 17:37

my very boden yummy mummy friend*

springchik · 07/10/2010 20:23

Last week one of my dc class mates bought in her 2 guinea pigs. Tomorrow is only my ds 2nd show and tell as only been in school a few weeks and he was poorly last friday. He is refusing to bring anything in tomorrow as he "doesnt want to talk about it". He is shy and lacks confidence and his teacher said he wont talk during carpet time. Hope he doesnt get in trouble for not bringing anything!

memoo · 07/10/2010 22:12

My friends DD took my baby Grin and yes it is a real baby!

Effjay · 08/10/2010 20:13

Thanks all. Given me lots of ideas ... if I need them. But mostly, I think I should let my DS will come up with the idea, as it seems anything goes Smile.

He did want to take the cat, but I draw the line at that!

A dead bird he found in the garden and popped into his backpack without us noticing. The school think we're the Adams family.
