Maths Mad Minutes

I'd like to ask any other Mums if they have the same concerns about Mad Minutes maths tests as i have. In particular, if any teachers/education specialists could shine some light on this, i would be very grateful.
My daughter has just gone into Year 4 and performs very well at these sorts of tests, however, i am concerned that the requirement to move up to the next level is 36/36 three weeks in a row. A single mistake, often due to haste i am sure, results in having to complete the whole process again.
Although no pressure is put on the children at school, the children obviously want to succeed but could in effect get 107/108 and be back where they started- how demotivating and demoralising!
Is this fair? Where else in life are we required to meet such a high standard?

Alison25 I share your feelings entirely; At my DDs school they have to get full marks for FIVE! weeks in a row - imagine being on your last week before potentially "moving up" and getting one wrong - this has happened to my DD who isn't exactly best buddies with numeracy anyway. I share her dissappointment if she has to start again, and I do not think it is a fair system, as you say perfection is nigh on impossible in life! I think a pass of 95% should be acceptable personally. Hey ho.

Please, explain what is a Maths Minutes test?
Are your children in Private Schools?
My Dd is in a Prep. I am concern that she is not in the top group in Maths, although, she has an exellent reoprt. Each time I ask her teachers, they assure me she is in the right group, but I find the work she is given, guite unchalleging for her. Perhaps they are using the assessment method that you have described.

Our DD does mad minute maths and loathes it. Like lovecheese, she isn't best buddie with numeracy (which I blame her last school for). I am not sure if they are marked on these things and whether they move up a notch. AFAIK, the whole class do the same lot of numbers. She is 9.4 by the way. The whole thing was a totally new thing to her, and me although the rest of her class were familiar with this.

Akiko it is a part of the day where each child has to quickly answer (on paper) mental maths questions. State school.
