Hi, my daughter has just started reception she is 4.5 years old and they use the numicon for maths. The teacher gave us details on ordering them online however they are expensive £30+ I am just wondering if its worth buying one for home :-)

You don't need to buy them for home.

I don't get numicon, and frankly I haven't seen a child that loves it either. I do though teach ks2 SEN. It seems a bit of a fad to me.

strawberrycake,
My ds likes numicon! He will pull it out to play with and we do bits together sometimes.

I think numicon has definately helped his understanding of basic maths. He just sees the answer and is able to say double 3 say is 6 and 4 and 2 is also 6 so I would say it is good for the number bonds.
He has just begun reception (just turned 4) but I bought it last year.
You could get some cuisenaire rods as the plastic ones are quite cheap.
