Telling Children to Shut Up

Is it ok?

We don't say it at home - unless I'm really loosing it, but NQT in Y2/3 class has been saying it and it just doesn't sit right with me.

One of DDs friends mentioned it and DD confirmed that the teacher says it regularly and is a bit "shouty" and bangs the desk.

Don't know whether I'm being a bit PFB

I think the children involved may well have left school by now, this thread is six years old!

Not acceptable and table banging and use of 'shut up' tells me the NQT is struggling with class management... I'd speak to someone as it's not right and the NQT appears to need support from school leadership.

.......and the NQT is either Head of an academy school spouting forth about progress and value added performance or filling shelves in Tesco's!

SIX YEARS AGO!!!!!

I wonder if that child has suffered badly from being told to shut up by a teacher?
Perhaps The OP might let us know if, six years later, it's had any adverse effect?😏

I hate it. I am a teacher (still am but am leaving the profession) and I never use it. I say 'hush' and 'quiet voices please'. A Y5 colleague does say 'shut up' and gets away with it.
It seems my SLT do not know the definition of 'inappropriateness'. 🙄
