The hell of the school run

Both dds go to the same school which is 5 miles away. Dd 2 is in reception and has to come home at lunch time. The headmistress is adamant that nothing will change. It is utter hell for us having to go to the school 3 times a day and I'm getting even more fed-up with the headmistress. I am wondering whether it is a good idea to move to a closer school, and hope that the headteacher was closer to being human. I frankly feel that I am being bullied by this bloody woman.

Where I live many childrne go to nursery full time the September after their 3rd birthday (we went private so chose to keep them part time for nursery) so it would be absolute madness to do part time in reception. I suppose in areas where there is no nursery provision I can sort of see the sense but it must be so annoying.

The dc's school is 7 miles away from where we live but very close to where I work so the school run is all relative.

I will look into the more local school. It is a 1.5 mile walk across some fields. I am certainly not the first person to have doubts about where the dds are, and certainly not the first to think of moving them elsewhere. I think it is less about the distance and more about the place itself. The current school is also bang in the middle of nowhere and completely the wrong direction for anything else. WE'll see.

How long will DD2 be on half days? Surely just until half term?

Are you walking, driving, carpooling, public transport or cycling?

We walk to school and chose the local one as we have no car.

I feel for you if you're walking / cycling, but if you are on a bus or car, well you really have to count your blessings that you don't have to lug water from the well through rapist infested grasslands like the women of Darfur as well. Now that's what I call hellish YKWIM?

Sorry but there is more going on I think than the Hellish?? school run.

And if not, you know, you are not alone, we are all on the school run, and just sucking it up.....

I'm sorry you're not happy with your children's school. Look around maybe?
