Is the yoghurt for the end?

My DD has just started reception and is doing 9-12 so far. Next week she will be staying for her packed lunch. We have been practising lunch boxes at home this week. So she has asked me a couple of times is the yoghurt for the end? ie when all the rest is gone. I'm not sure what to say. I don't want her to overfill herself just to eat the yoghurt and I'm not sure that the yoghurt isn't as important as the sandwich/fruit help please.

she will eat it in order of 'niceness'. your sandwich may well come home. Smile

Half the time, they eat it all, other half they just 'pick'. Packed lunch is not important in my eyes as they swap stuff around so you never know quite what has been eaten.

A good evening meal is the key to all this I think.

Plus, they rush lunch in order to go outside and play.

Look forward to a mush in the lunchbag at the end of the day!

Thanks Bee - but should I tell her the nice stuff is for the end (taking her lead) or should I give her carte blanche (to probably ignore the sandwich) Ta

Nice stuff for the end.

Mine eat in order of sandwich, flapjack/cookie/muffin I've baked, yoghurt and fruit. Or it maybe fruit then yoghurt.

They always eat their sandwiches first and TBH I think that has always been re-inforced by the lunch supervisors.

Not too many sandwiches though, they don't get a great deal of time to eat. When DS1 started I sent him with a massive lunchBlush and he was getting upset because he couldn't finish.

My boys are Y3 and Y2 now and both still only have sandwiches with one slice of bread, doorstop size thoughGrin

I would let her choose. Yoghurt is a protein and may actually be more filling than a few bites of sandwich. She might also like the feeling of being in control of what she eats, when. If she's anything like my daughter, she'll want the yoghurt first in the beginning because of the novelty and then start having the sandwich first because that is what everyone else is doing.

Thanks I think I will just avoid answering the question Wink. I'm actually in favour of letting her choose but I think the school may say something else and I don't want her to be confused.

Let her decide, i do with my ds with just one rule, fruit is to be eaten first before anything else. That really perplexes the dinner ladies!

My dd has had packed lunches for the past year - I have never discussed with her what order she eats the bits in. I think school probably encourages eating the sandwich first though, as the sandwich has always gone and she's not a terribly good eater. I'd try not to enforce too much as it can put a child in a difficult position if school asks them to do something different from what you have told them.

I just say "sandwich first", and then leave the rest up to dd.

This thread title would be great for a book. It sounds quite phlosophical.

Are you keeping the yoghurt cool? They're not as appealing after three hours in a warm classroom. As a previous poste said, she'll save her favourite for last!
