Moving house after admissions - allowed to go to current school?

My DP reckons if we move house we may not be allowed to continue sending our dcs to our local state primary school as we may be deemed out of the catchment area. I say not - surely it's only before/during the admissions process to get into a school you have to live close enough to get priority in the applications process. Once you have got into a school, then, it doesn't matter where you live afterwards does it? We want to move house but this may be a fair few miles away from the school (our choice), but dont want to get caught out by any rules on how close we are to the school to continue to be able using it. Our dcs are currently in reception and year 2.
Anyone know? thanks

From the info you have given there would not be a problem as your children are already in attendance. The only problem would come if you have children who are yet to start school or if you are planning more (or in rare cases these days it is a separate infant and junior school that requires new applications for entry to year 3).

They are in the school so they would stay in the school. However, if you have another they probably wouldn't get in as out of catchment sibling.

As both children are already at the school there is no issue with them remaining at the school.
You do need however to think carefully through the next move that your children will make to secondary school. The local secondary school may give a level of preference to children who reside within the catchment of the primary school but not for those outside the catchment zone. So think a bit about where you believe that your children may go to secondary school, but also be realistic that this is 4 years away and anything can happen in that time.

As others have said, once your children are at the school you cannot lose the places just because you move. You can live in Carlisle but keep sending your children to school in Penzance if you want! It is not unknown for schools to tell parents that they lose their child's place if they move but this is wrong. The admissions code is clear. The only way you can lose the places now is if the LA find that you obtained the places fraudulently.

Agree with Admission that you need to think about how this affects secondary schooling.
