Should I worry My DDs teacher has under estimated her abilities in all areas.

Am I being unreasonable that my daughter's teacher since starting school in reception has appeared to consistently underestimate her abilities, sending work home for her to do that she can do with ease. And commenting that she is not independent enough - at home she dresses in another room, gets her own drinks, helps with cooking(under supervision). I am not saying that the teacher has got it wrong just worried that my DD is either being lazy or there are other factors at school affecting her performance....please help

I should have added that My DD is in year 1 and owing to it being a small village school has same teacher as last year, she idolises her teacher too I really want some advice or should I just stop worrying!

Have you spoken to the teacher about this?

Has she been in school less than a fortnight?
Is she doing full or half days?
Perhaps the teacher is still getting to grips with the 20 or so in the class, and perhaps your daughter is either distracted or over-faced by the number of others sharing her space and needs prompting or assisting that she's not needing at home. Of course, if your daughter is in Y6 I apologise.

That's what I get for being a slow poster. Grin

LOL! Calm down. It's only a couple of weeks into term. What work is the teacher sending home?
If it's reading books and they are too easy, send a pleasant note saying would they mind checking her reading as you think she might be ready for the next level. If it's spellings or numeracy, remember homework is supposed to be able to be done independently so it's not going to be really challenging. Personally (as a teacher) I disapprove of ANY homework in Yr1 apart from reading.

If your dd is able to be independent but isn't at school you should ask her if there is a specific problem about getting changed etc. My dd could do it but was always very distracted by other children, still is! I wouldn't worry about it.

Do you think that your DD might be so fond of her teacher that she's using any ploy she can think of to get the teacher's attention?
