My 4 year old started reception class last week, he is part time (turned 4 in July).

On his first day the TA told me that he is lovely but very "wilful" which i agree he is.....

Today i picked him up and asked if he had been a good boy and he said no a bad boy, although he wont tell me what he has done and i didn't get pulled aside to be told what he had done and it wasn't written in his home school diary so i must just presume that it couldn't have been anything major or surely they would have spoken to me, wouldn't they?

He is so unlike my other two who are quiet, laid back and generally good, whereas Jack is totally the opposite and has always been the one who finds himself in trouble.

I can already foresee lots of problems, I'm just hoping school will sort a lot of these out.

No - you're not alone Sad.

DS (4.6) got a pretty guarded first day report - or maybe it was just me being oversensitive to what the teacher said. She said good things, but also some other slightly worrying words.

Don't know, but I feel rubbish and pretty tearful now. He was so excited about starting school, and I really want him to enjoy it and fit in.

He's probably overexcited as he is not used to being around so many children.

He's not a naughty child; he's usually quite 'good', so I'm not sure what the problem is. And I don't want to seem defensive, so didn't push for details. Am just hoping whatever it was temporary and he will settle in - it is only his first full day.

well, when i went back to pick up my other son i happened to bump into Jacks teacher who said he'd behaved beautifully!!!

I suppose if it had been bad they would have spoken to me - at least i hope they would have anyway.

Think I am just so worried that he is going to be the "naughty boy" of the classroom when really he isn't naughty, yes he knows what he wants and will argue for to get it but has never hit, bitten or kicked another child.

He is however, very overtired and a lot more whingy in the afternoons, so very early to bed i think :)

Ah, thanks JJM - (although you did make me cry, well, cry more.... Smile).

Glad that your DS had a good day, after all.
