Hi there I am wondering if anyone has advice on good prep schools in Chiswick or Hammersmith. My DD is only 7mths but not sure which one - Orchard House or Ravenscourt Park?
I looked at Chiswick and Bedford Park Prep but reports not looking as good. I've put down for Bute house but I think that is heavily oversubscribed. Would appreciate any advice!

Buy Good Schools Guide, you are probably too late and way down the waiting list at 7 months old if they are not selective. Thought Bute House was a lottery system. Whole prep school thing is very fierce in that part of the world good luck, thats why we moved Grin.

Thanks Fiddledee
Ravenscourt park actually does not accept applications till a year of age... so will be seeing but just wondering if anyone has kids there. I have looked up reports etc but it is useful to see what parents think. I will try the book though am already in Fulham so I do know the West London situation well!

Worth also looking at schools in Kew such as Kew green Prep (sister school to Ravenscourt park Prep), Kew College, Unicorn, also there's a newish school Heathfield in Chiswick? 7 months isn't too late but you do need to get on several lists and make a choice when offers come in.

Thanks so much for that - I will look at those. Had not heard of Heathfield so that's particularly helpful as we are moving to the Turnham green end. I am in the process of putting her down for all suitable ones!

My children have been really happy at Orchard House. To be honest, all the schools mentioned above are good and I know mums with children at most of them! I think it's really nice to be able to walk to school rather than be stuck in a car every day or waiting for the school bus. At this stage I would register for the 3-4 schools you prefer (more if you don't mind splashing out) and then not think about it for a couple of years. Schools and your preferences can change and you can always have another tour around the schools once it's time for the offers to be made.

Just another point. It's worth checking how many classes there are in a year. It is notoriously difficult to get into a coed school where there is only one form entrance and can be easily filled by siblings. So if a school has 2 or more classes it will be easier. Some schools have nursery classes others do not. Oh so complicated! But you have plenty of time. As azure says they are all lovely schools in this area and if you apply to 3 or 4 you should get a choice.
