Primary vs secondary outstanding ofsted

Oh dear...

Currently dc1 goes to 'good' high school, dc2&3 go to 'outstanding' primary. High school is still improving (having been in special measures about 5 years ago).

But... we're thinking of moving. The village has an 'outstanding' high school but the primary is only 'satisfactory'.

Is this a big issue? Dc2 has just started Y6 so would be in high school before v much longer but dc3 is only in nursery so whole primary education ahead of him.

I'm so confused about what to do!

Am posting this in primary & secondary as well to maximise traffic!

it depends a lot on the headteacher, especially if its a fairly small primary - how long ago was the OFSTED report, and has there been any change to the senior staff at the school, funds injected for extra SEN/TAs etc? what areas let them down and which were stronger?

there is a lot more to being happy and doing well at school than the ofsted rating tells you, and as long as kids are being given lots of varied learning oportunites and feel safe and happy thats good news. there can still be unhappy children in the most outstanding of schools

They're only words, do you really think these Ofsted labels mean that much?
I've heard horror stories about schools or nurseries with Good and Outstanding ratings, and glowing raves about schools only 1-2 years after they went into Special Measures.

I have to say, I teach at a 'satisfactory' primary and will be sending my own DS there without a moment's hesitation. I'm afraid an awful lot of Ofsted's judgements come down to how well the head can 'talk the talk' and our head just isn't that good at that, despite being a super head. Ofsted spend so little time in schools now, it all comes down to statistics and lengthy discussions with the head and senior management team.

Agree with all of the above really.

I would base choice of school on your own impressions when you visit, and the experiences of other parents. Ofsted gives an indication, but not much more than that IMO. Also, a school can change very quickly, especially with a change of head.
