mums at school

Please tell me that i am not imagining this. Are there always a couple of mums in each class that obsessed with their children and as such are mega competitive. They seem to get to know everyone individually and find out everything they want to know and then give the cold shoulder to anyone who dosn't come up to their standards or threatens the supremacy of their child. I am a very laid back person and find this all very perplexing. Has anyone seen these kinds of manouvers at pickup and how can you avoid these people?

Sadly it's the pushy parents who are most likely to be damaging their children psychologically. Imagine always having to be "the best" at school in order for Mum/Dad to be pleased.

So if you can manage it -try and feel sorry for the poor DC's and for the parent who feels so insecure s/he has to bolster her/his self esteem by boasting about how able her/his child is!! :o

As I have said on a previous thread it is the mums who quiz their DCs the moment they come through the door that amuse me; If DD comes out and tells me that she has gone up a book level or whatever and is quite rightly proud of herself then fine, but I would never ask her (nothing to do with anyone else) stuff in front of people.

P.S she told me on the way home that she had gone up a level - cue me checking that no-one heard; Anyone else get embarrassed?

Oh, no lycra and high heels at my DCs schools - surely that would look ridiculous, are we talking a Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan type lycra leggings?

I have been known to go in the morning in running gear but only to force me to actually go for a run otherwise I would feel foolish going home and getting changed into normal clothes.

mimi - I think it is less private v state, then small friendly local school versus massive posh competitive to get into school! The whole atmosphere is different, perhaps it is because I am new, and also under strict orders not to say anything my dh tells me about school matters or in fact talk about him to parents!

lol, guess I just need to put my head down and make more of an effort with my other friends to make up for no school gate gossiping!
