Everyone i speak to on here and in rl, other than the ones that will be at the same school as DS seems to be starting full days straight away.

DS will be doing half days 8.50-12 until the end of term and not doing full days till after Christmas.

Was just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat and weather it is really necessary

Where we used to live, they used to be mornings only for two terms after they were 4 and then all day from the term when they had their 5th birthday. This meant the oldest ones had two terms of nursery and three terms of full time reception whereas the youngest ones only had two morning terms and one full time one.

They have now changed it and all children go full time in September, although the youngest ones not until the beginning of October I think. Oldest ones still get more time there though (mixed nursery/reception class).

DD is doing this next week- 9-11.30 for 4 days, then 2 days the next week staying for lunch, then full days. i know we have got off lightly- the school at the end of the same road does half days in a morning/afternoon random combination for the first term.

DD was only 4, 2 weeks ago, but she is looking forward to school, and as I have always worked school hours, has been in private nursery 8-3 any way for the days I worked.

I really don't see the point of letting them get used to just a half day for long periods- surely that makes the full time bit even more of a shock?

I'm glad there is no staggered start for the younger ones at her school, all this does is makes it even harder for the younger ones to fit in, imo. Friendships will have been made in the first few months, and marks them out as the 'babies' in the class.

We have a staggered start - youngest first - in batches of 10. My son being one of the eldest start on 16 Sept. Then part-time till mid November (8.55am - 11.55) . . . then stay for lunch for 2 weeks, so pick up at 1.30pm, followed by full-time from December. All the schools in my area seem to do something different - Surrey.

We have two half days and then they're in full time.

I think that's perfect. More is so disruptive to family life.

Rollergirl - I had the same thing with my daughter a couple of years ago - the 'summer born' parents all complained and they have now switched it round - hence why my son is starting later this time.
