Not Monday, but today. And I hate how quiet the house is. I will admit that I really resent that he has to start school so young. I'd prefer a 5yo start, rather than 4yo. And I resent the fact that he will be at school most of the day as well, with very little family time at the close of his day. But he was so thrilled and excited to be in school, it's obviously going to be good for him.

DS1 starts reception on Weds though he has an induction hour (whatever that is!) on Tues morning from 9.30-10.30. Academically he is ready - he says he's really looking forward to the maths part (geek!) but socially he's a bit awkward and I'm also frantically worrying because he's had about 5 toileting accidents in the past week (not normal for him).

I'm completely torn - on one hand I'm ecstatic - he's hard work and the constant questions over the past 9 weeks (yes his summer holiday has been that long!) are driving me crackers. Also he needs challenging. On the other hand I'm nervous about it and I'm sure I'll miss him once he's there.

Ds2 starts next Thursday - half days for a week, then full days.

He can't wait, I can't wait - it's a win-win situation!!

My friends DS is starting school on Monday and even I am a bit glassy eyed at the thought of her miracle baby all dressed up in her school uniform!

Hai1988 · 02/09/2010 14:23

DS is turning 5 on Saturday and school on Monday so a big week for my DS Smile

He will be doing just mornings for the first term, and full days after chirstmas.

I just have to keep saying to myself that its just like nursary class (they have a nersary class in the school) but he will be wearing uniform.

DS cant wait, he has got all his friends from the nursary class going up into reception with him so he already knows everyone, as he also met his teachers a couple of times last term.

I probably would be less stressed about it if it was half days. He starts from 9am to 1:30pm and then within 3 weeks they will be going from 9am to 3pm. When we have to leave the house by 8:20 to be there on time and get home about 3:30, it doesn't leave much time in his day, as he is usually in bed by 6 or 6:30 in the evening. Probably won't be so bad once he is a bit older and stays up later, but he is an early early riser and is requesting to go to bed by 6 if we haven't already started bedtime routine.

Mine starts on Monday. He was four on Saturday.
Full time from the beginning!

DS2 starts on Monday. Half days for 2 weeks, then full-time. Will be good for all of us!

sailorsgal · 02/09/2010 17:06

My ds is starting next Wednesday, full days.

We had a practice run trying on the uniform this morning. Brought tears to my eyes! Blush

DD starts reception on Monday full time from the start. I'm not too stressed about it to be honest as she's been in nursery at the same school for 2 years now but it will still be a big change.

Just been to buy school shoes and her first book bag plus school uniform. She looks so grown up

feedthegoat · 02/09/2010 22:38

Ds starts on Monday too. He's mornings for 3 weeks then full time.

He was excited (he loved his school nursery last year) but had a slight wobble today. He has an egg allergy and the cook had requested a letter confirming food he can't have from dr when I asked about this at parents meeting. He was a little wary when we went in to drop it off. He's excited about seeing his friends again though.

I've got mixed feelings about it really. On one hand he is nearly 5 and confident so I'm not worried about him being too young. However I'm aware our time will never be ours again in quite the same way. Looking forward to a little bit of time of my own too though!

DD starts reception on Monday. Am feeling fine about it - in some ways I feel like this is her second time of starting school, as from January to June she was in a mixed nursery/reception class where we used to live, and so has done "starting at school wearing a uniform thing" already.

This doesn't mean I won't be a little emotional on Monday of course.

She'll be doing 9-12 next week, then 9-1 the week after and full time the week after that. She'll start being full time on her 5th birthday Smile.

feedthegoat · 02/09/2010 23:00

Ds wore uniform at nursery too Noah. Obviously he has shot up in 6 weeks mind because last years (which was barely skimming shoes as it was!) doesn't fit anymore Grin.

Think that is going to be the story of my life though as he is a beanpole 4 year old currently wearing age 6 and 7!

NoahAndTheWhale · 03/09/2010 08:42

DD has also shot up - happened at Easter so at least I bought summer dresses with room to grow. Had to get new pinafore dresses though - old ones would have been indecent Grin.

Hai1988 · 03/09/2010 10:24

We tried on uniform again yesterday just to check it all still fitted Blush

It's getting rather near now isn't it?

feedthegoat · 05/09/2010 22:02

Yes. I've started another thread tonight about feeling sorry for myself! Blush

FiveGoMadInDorset · 05/09/2010 22:03

DD started last Thursday and cried on Saturday when she couldn't go. Half days except for Thursdays for her until half term and then the option to go full days or not until Christmas.

feedthegoat · 07/09/2010 20:23

How did everyone get on?

Ds had a slightly tearful moment when mums were asked to leave as he said he didn't know what to do with his picture he had just drawn. Once his teacher showed him the box to put then in he was fine.

When he came out I asked if his new teacher was lovely. He said no and paused long enough to worry me before grinning and saying 'she's awesome!' Grin.
