Teachers - would you really prefer I didn't?

For my child's birthday we are going to the theatre, and his whole year group have been invited, due to the numbers and outside of school people coming. I have been able to get the tickets at a very competitive rate.

Now I'm sat here thinking due to the rate it would be nice to invite his teachers (2), and offer the same as I have with the invitees, the opportunity to buy extra tickets at the discounted rate.

But then I'm thinking does that put the teacher in an awkard position?

Maybe I'm over thinking but anyone else's thoughts gratefully received.

I'm a teacher. It's a nice (if a bit odd Wink) thought but I wouldn't want to see my whole class outside of school, blurs the boundaries a bit. I wouldn't do it.

HuwEdwards · 01/09/2010 20:19

Oh god no, coals to Newcastle and all that. I think they would run a mile.

hocuspontas · 01/09/2010 20:21

Blimey! I don't envy you! How many adults are going? You will be on constant toilet duty! Grin

LackingInspiration · 01/09/2010 20:24

I'd think you're slightly bonkers, and feel obliged to come along if you'd already bought the tickets.

MrsStig · 01/09/2010 20:27

, "and offer the same as I have with the invitees, the opportunity to buy extra tickets at the discounted"

Are people paying to go, or are you paying for them? Confused

I think you'll find the teachers have a prior engagement if you invite them.

bostonfall · 01/09/2010 20:31

That's okay then, I just felt rude inviting all the children, and what's bizarre in my opinion because believe me if it was the other way round, nearly 90% of those invited have turned it into a family occassion, and are paying for both parents and siblings to come. It is a great show, and a fantastic discount. But still!!! I had roped in non children friends with the attitude of I'd need the hands for the toilet run, and I said to them not necessary for you to come now, and they still want to come, and have even offered to pay for their own tickets.

other way round* I would be leaving my child and saying see you in 2.5 hours!!!

I wouldn't want to go. I would find it v. awkward.

MrsStig · 01/09/2010 20:32

Can I come too?

pozzled · 01/09/2010 20:34

TBH I would find it quite awkward to be invited. Firstly because I like to keep a firm line between work and home life. And secondly, because if if the whole year group were going I would feel forced into 'school trip' mode- having to count heads, look out for bad behaviour and check they've all been to the toilet in the interval. Grin

Nice to think of the teachers, but I'd just leave it for the children if I were you.

pinayangel0912 · 01/09/2010 20:41

lol @ pozzled... its very true...

bostonfall · 01/09/2010 20:47

Ah so pozzled there's a distinct advantage to invite the teachers Grin

If the majority of parents weren't saying yes, that may of swung it for me to invite the teachers Wink

Agree whole heartedly with pozzled. Lovely of you to think of the teacher though!

pinayangel0912 · 01/09/2010 21:06

ah okay.. i was thinking about 60 in the whole year... 30 in each class...

pozzled · 01/09/2010 21:08

Lol, where I live there's often 3 or 4 classes per year group- 90 or 120 children. That would have been SOME birthday event!!

pinayangel0912 · 01/09/2010 21:09

here in london its normally 2 classes per year group.. between 25-30 children in a class..

Shaz10 · 01/09/2010 21:11

It's a lovely thought, but I'm afraid I'm busy that day. Wink.

Littlefish · 01/09/2010 21:30

LOL at Shaz - that's my standard reply too. Grin

SuSylvestersNiceSide · 01/09/2010 21:33

pfb?

bostonfall · 01/09/2010 21:39

SSNS No just a nice party idea that grew in popularity, and for this reason, thought it may be a nice idea to extend the invitation to two more.

Whoever SuSylvester is I would hate to see their nasty side.
