There's an event coming up at dd's school shortly (proceeds to flood victims in Pakistan) and I found myself volunteering to oversee it.

As a fundraising novice, I'd be grateful for any advice/tips as to what sort of events are most enjoyable/successful and raise the most money.

Many thanks!

Thanks Ruby

Are there any ground rules such as banning use of nuts etc? Do you buy the ingreds. in bulk or just let individual parents get on with it? And (sorry - last question promise!) do you recommend selling them to take home and eat or to eat on premises at end of school day?

Adult quiz evening for the parents. Entry money for the quiz plus a raffle on the side. Tell people to bring their own drinks and nibbles.

mufti day for a £1
bring a jam jar filled with sweets

makes about £2 per child

Apologies - only managed to get back to this thread this morning

Thank you for all your replies - much appreciated

Ruby - you sound like an old hand at this sort of thing - thank you for all the useful tips - particularly sending each child home with a paper plate as a reminder - very useful - have noted! Thanks again

VivalaBeaver - thank you - that's definitely one to think about for the future but in this partic. instance the school want the event to be child-focused/pupil-run etc

Ggirl - thank you - lots of food for thought there. £2 (or in our case 2 euros per child would add up to quite a tidy sum. Not sure how the higher-ups would react to a mufti day (we already have several throughout the year for various reasons) Will think about it. Jam jar idea excellent!

Thanks everyone. Last night came up with potential idea of an art gallery in gym - each pupil produces drawing or painting on water related theme - charge entrance fee - cake/refreshments stand in corner. Perhaps raffle at same time. Cake-selling sounds a bit more profitable though. Still pondering ....!!

the one that sticks in my mind the most, not particularly from money raised, but from the positive impact it had on the children and parents was a school art exhibition. I worked with the art coordinator to get all the art work together, she ensured that all artwork was finished and presentable. I labelled it all, and then handed it over to the exhibition company - who were lovely.....www.minimasterworks.co.uk. They were very approachable, answered all questions, kept me up-to-date with what was going on, made all the pictures look v. professional, and they curated the whole event, took the money and then gave us a cut. I still have parents come up to me to congratulate me on the exhibition, and it was 14 months ago! I'm now organising doing one for my twins nursery.
