OK, so I being premature. My DS is only just two (July), but not one teacher I know thinks that starting school just after a child has turned four is a good idea (most view starting school the term a child is 5 as a better option, which is what my DD is doing and I am happy about this). Virtually NO other Country in the world thinks starting school so young is a good idea - and yet we are basically FORCED to do this - even if we disagree (OK, we can defer and go into year 1 - but what good does that do)?
Without going into details (as this topic has been debated at length), how do I start a proper campaign to give parents in England and Wales the same choice as parents in Scotland? In Scotland, you can defer your child starting school for a year WITH NO CONSEQUENCES and this is particularly easy to do if you have a younger child. Interestingly, in Scotland the intake is from February to February so no child is younger than four and a half when they start school.
Help please... I am going to contact my MP and local council, but what do others think about 'parental choice' on this issue (particularly for summer born children)??
Any ideas and views welcomed (I am not sure what mumsnet campaigns do and if this is one they would be interested in?)!!
