I had high hopes of doing a little a day but so far, apart from reading every other day (very little, just a couple of pages at night), we've done nothing.

DS will be going into Y2 in Sept, am I the only one?

Beginning to feel like I should be doing more?

DS is more interested in making dens in the garden and having a long break doing, well, not very much at all really. That's ok, isn't it?

I admit to doing a bit with my dds every day if possible but for different reasons; dd1 is going into yr5 and struggles with mental maths which as we all know is key; she is working at a level 3b despite getting a 2a in ks1 sats (2 years burying her head in the sand and refusing extra help) so dh is spending 30 mins absolute max a day with her and I, and most importantly she can see improvement. She doesn't have to love maths, just appreciate it's necessity.

Dd2 on the other hand will be going into yr2 and reads a huge variety of books and magazines( not bunty ;)) and enjoys doing workbooks - she has a wide choice from mental maths, comprehension and problem solving to name but a few; she chooses what she

What happened there? Typing on a phone.. As I was saying she chooses the subject and we have fun doing something for the first time or consolidating something else. We can easily fit it in somewhere during the day. I wish my own parents had had the time and resources to help me more when I was young. But forehead, 2 hours a day? I think our balance is right for us.

Dd1 is sitting 11 plus in three weeks time. We have not done very much work at all, but have gone through a few techniques that she does not grasp. Tbh I am not convinced that grammar school will be right for her, and I think that she should enjoy her holiday. Luckily there are some good alternatives to grammar school for us, but feel for the children who have not got back up plan.

I read this whilst on holiday in America, and it makes a very good case for doing some work during the summer holiday. Not saying that I agree with 2 hours of structured learning a day, but some work seems to be important.
