School trousers for tall skinny boys

DS1 is 7. He has long legs and a very skinny waist. M&S age 8 trousers are the right length for him, but are way too big around the waist. They have an adjustable waistband but he finds them uncomfortable if they are pulled in as the button and elastic rub. He can wear them with a belt, but they look a bit bunched up IMO.

Is there anywhere that sells inexpensive skinny boys' school trousers?

Maybe I'm being very old-fashioned here, but could you not have darts put in? I cobble pretty rubbish ones together myself but dry cleaners often do cheap alterations...

Ds is dead skinny and Asda school trousers work well for him. I also got him a couple of snake belts from Ebay - work fab in any trousers :)

M & S Long Length trousers are brilliant for skinny boys. Just buy them a size or two smaller than their age. (My smallish 9-year old is wearing size 7 longs at the moment and no longer looks like he is wearing a nappy under his trousers.)

Now if I could only find non skinny-jeans jenas for a skinny boy who likes his jeans straight...

What a relief, I am not the only one struggling! Will drag my son around M&S and next tomorrow to see if we can find something for school.

For jeans I really like La Redoute. They do slim fit and sometimes even very slim fit versions of their jeans and they fit my kids perfectly. For the first time ever a pair of jeans was actually too tight for my daughter!

Wow, this is an old thread! (I was the OP)

Problem solved actually, by Next slim fit jean style school trousers, so thanks to those who suggested them Grin

would they let him wear smart school shorts? this solves my long skinny boy issues...yes even in december...

My son was (and still is) on the skinny side of thin (he's now 6'3" and weighs 10 stone). Trousers (and not just for school) were always an issue - we used to joke that we could get him and a friend into them. I found the cheap shops (Primark etc) were best - they keep prices down by skimping on material, and so tend to be small to size. Alternatively, buy trousers that fit round the waist and let down the hem as far as it'll go (ironically, to do this it's best to go for more expensive trousers, as they generally have a bigger hem). And yes, thank the lord for the fashion of showing the tops of your underpants - my son dresses like that from necessity, at least he's also trendy!!

Thanks continentalKat for the tip about La Redoute. Will try them next for jeans for my skinny boys.

M & S seem to have stopped the supply of long length school trousers in grey, though they still hve them in black and navy. Annoying to me, but still good for anyone whose kids wear black or navy.
