Has anyone got any fun ideas to get my five year old ds (just finished reception), doing a little bit of writing each day?

The obvious one would be a diary/scrapbook. Collect pictures and little treasures from the day's activities, stick them in and write a little bit about each day. Then at the end of the holidays you can look back through it and talk about what you've done.

Shopping lists or postcards to a relative.

As DS suggested, the diary is always a nice one as you can add lots of oics and keep it.

Diary or scrapbook of his holiday.
Letters or postcards to family and/or friends.
Almost anything that can be written on a post-it note!
Comments in speech bubbles - use google or your own photos for characters
Write jokes - at 5y though the jokes are dire, despite them finding them fab
Write notes to each other. DD used to write me notes and post them under the door int he room I was in, and expect a reply.
Make a shop upstairs and he writes the price list for you to go and buy items.
Shopping list for you when you are going out shopping.

marking my place as I have the same thing with a Y1 boy We tried diary last year and he wasn't hugely taken with it, unfortunetly...

Although he loves hangman Not writing per se, but good for letter formation!

My 6yr old DS, who isn't as keen on the diary idea as his older brother was, likes listing the names of football players from his Match Attax cards and making up fantasy football teams.

I keep telling myself it still counts as writing...

It all counts as writing! Loys of lovely ideas here.

What about simple words in the game 'Boggle'?

Fantastic ideas thankyou all so much. My ds is excited about writing a secret letter to his friend down the road. I'm hoping they correspond regularly over the holidays. Also he has a friend coming for lunch, so i am going to attempt to get him to do menu and place names!!!

How about writing restaurant menu ? My son (who hates to write) happily wrote menus out every day while we ate out on holiday at that age and really enjoyed it.
