What about the Plimsolls?

Anyone bought very good Plimsolls, e.g durable, breathable, good price and also nice fit.

M&S says: "Made with breathable cotton, these washable plimsolls are a practical choice for PE or play and have non-marking soles." Yet, the comments show the customers do not like them.

I would just buy the cheapest you can find for the length of time they are worn over a year (2 hours a week minus the time it takes to get changed x 39 weeks) it's not worth spending too much time or money.

I didn't think much of the m&s ones
we buy clarks

DS had some from Tesco during Reception which he has recently grown out of. I got his second pair from a school uniform shop at double the price of the original ones and they are EXACTLY the same. I would save your money and just get the cheapest you can find that fit.

my dd had to wear them all day except for when she was outside at playtime and lunchtime so we started off with Clarks and then ended up just getting her a pair of trainers for use indoors as they were sturdier.

A friend offered me a second hand pair of Clarks Doodles last year. Her DC had just finished reception. They were immaculate!

And also too small.

So knowing that they wouldn't get much wear I got the first cheapish pair I found in the right size. I think DS did more PE than friend's DC, but they definitely look worn.

I feel like we got our money's worth.

You get what you pay for, I guess. It might be worth going for the velcro ones tho'.

We got clarks plimsolls for dd starting, they wear them all day only putting on proper shoes for lunch time play and break (village school, lots of us walk accross fields to get to school, lots of mud lol!) I chose to pay more and get better ones as they were the shoes dd was going to spend the most time in and I am glad and will do the same for next year as she hasn't needed new ones, they have lasted all year, they are on last legs now and will go in bin this afternoon as school finishes at lunch time. I am lucky as in dd's feet are very very slow growing, I will be paying the £10 again next year for clarks ones again rather then having to buy 4 or 5 pairs of £3 ones from the cheap shops or supermarkets.

M & S girls ones are good - dolly shoe style so easy to get on and off.

Aeldred · 21/07/2010 13:39

We like Clarks but prefer the John Lewis ones as they are a similar quality but cheaper.

orienteerer · 21/07/2010 19:04

John Lewis, nice broad fitting, available in black or white.

Clarks are good and you can get them fitted, but really they hardly wear them.

In infants, indoor PE tends to be in bare feet. This means that if you buy new for September, they will have grown out of them by the time they're won in the summer term. Get the cheapest, although I would go for velcro, not elastic as easier for little fingers to get on.

Thanks everyone! Looks as the velcto ones is the answer. I will check those in the supermarkets first. John Lewis does not sell small sizes.
