Seperate Infants & Juniors

Hi,

My local primary school is split into two seperate schools. each has a building at the end of a very large field. All the infants kids move on to the juniors. The infants is a feeder to the juniors

I wasn't sure about seperate infant and junior schools, but it was my only choice. Now I find that as my son joins the infants, so the juniors wants to become an academy.

The new academy school is going to have different hours etc and also take less children per year than the infants. So, depending on the rules the academy sets, and the number of places they allow, my son may not get in. Up until now all children have gone from the Infants to the juniors, without question.

Who can I complian to? The schools don't work together. Should I now move to another school. even though both are outstanding?

How can this new government let one become an academy and, in doing so, let it change admission rules that have been set forever.

Help appreciated.

I'm not sure I would panic yet.

My kids have been to both a one form entry through school and a seperate infants and juniors - and I have found many many advantages to having seperate schools (and no advantages to the smaller through school)

The infant school can focus just on the little kids and provide exactly what they need - a through school can't do this. For example whole school assemblies, sports day etc. The infant school also provided far more opportunities like clubs for the kids.

A one form entry can't mix up kids if there are troubles between them, and the teachers have no one else teaching the same class to plan with and help them.

I would just try to enjoy the best of the infants, and when you move up the best of the juniors. Just because they're not accepting the same number of kids this year doesn't mean that your kid won't get accepted. I assume they must be accepting almost all of the kids... And if your kid doesn't get a place in the junior school they will get a place somewhere else - and they'll be plenty of time to panic then if you find yourself unable to commute to two schools....

I would certainly not recommend moving from a two or three form entry to a one form entry. I have just had so many problems with a one form entry....
