Free school meals

Okay, have just got a form from DS's school to apply for free school meals. Am confused though.
It says on form that I Can apply if I get child tax credits...which I do. Then it says I cannot apply if I get working tax credit...which I do.
Does this mean I can't get free meals, even though income is under the stated amount and I get child tax credit?

thats right you don't qualify.

I'm in the same situation and WTC doesn't even take me over the threashold. (or close!)

The criteria was going to be changed this year to means tested with CTC but the new govn put a stop to it.

That's correct

but you aren't missing out on much, meals here aren't that good anyway

I looked into this yesterday. We're in the same position - our income is certainly under the threshold they quote if you are only in receipt of CTC (I think it was earning less than either £14k or £16k and receiving CTC). We earn less than that with CTC and WTC combined so it appears that no, we're not entitled. Seems very strange and not entirely fair imo.

its not fair and even the officer for meals in my LEA agrees!!!!

basically I can earn £5000 more than I do and get CTC and get free school meals if I didn't get WTC. e.g VERY well paid p/t (under 16 hrs) instead of ave paid f/t!!!!

Don't understand how you can get CTC without also getting WTC...is it because DH works full time?
Thanx for all your replies anyway xxx
