KS1 Levels in real terms

I live in Mallorca and my children have always been schooled in local schools, they have passed all they need to here, but I wanted to know how that compares to the UK. I have been reading and writing in english with them, but have no idea what they should be able to read. I have the Kipper and Floppy books, does anyone know what sort of level in terms of books they should be at (I realise there will be a spectrum).

KS1 finishes when the child is 7 and has been in school 3 years. By that time 90% of children will have reached a level 2 ( or higher) which pretty much means they can read independently. For example they could read a Roalh Dahl book.

60% of children will be exactly a level 2 and should be Reading levels 8,9 or 10 of the ORT biff and kipper books.

I'd say that's a good result for end of KS1 - you're right, there is a spectrum. The children I teach, don't necessarily reach these levels - poor literacy skills at home, lack of support etc. However,if you've been supporting them and reading with them at home, then yes, those levels seem right.
