Hugh Myddelton Islington - any views?

Phew!
I'm new to mumsnet and have just spent the evening reading all the islington school threads to get an idea about state schools for my dd who is 4 in October so due to start reception in September 2011. Lots of very useful and interesting advice from you all - thank you!
My dd does not currently attend a setting in the Islington as I commute to Hampshire for work and she comes with me and goes to a day nursery near my office. So we have no knowledge or experience of local childcare or primary schools in the area. After reading all your threads I'm considering Thornhill, William Tyndale, Hanover, Prior Weston and Christopher Hatton, but I've found no mention of Hugh Myddelton which is our nearest primary school apart from Clerkenwell Parochial (which, I am assuming, is not an option as we are non-religious folks)
HM has a mostly outstanding ofsted so I was assuming it would be a good choice - but can I have views from those in the know please?

Apologies if I don't respond right away... i'm off to bed now... having worn myself out researching

Whether you get a reply to this sort of post depends on the accident of whether someone on Mumsnet who knows the school sees it.

I dont. I know nothing against it and so would strongly recommend, that equipped with the ofsted report you visit the school.

Also check that the rules still allow you to apply from a business address; they certainly used to.

Thanks nlondondad - I know it was a bit of a long shot, but there seems to be lots of parents on here from the area so I thought someone might have some info

I have arranged to visit in September so will see what I think then.

I won't be working in Winchester for much longer, so my DD will be living full-time in Islington by the time she starts school - otherwise the business address info may have been something to bear in mind.

... it was never this difficult when my oldest daughter started at school (in 1995!) she just went to the school nearest to our house!

I think Hugh M is supposed to be good. Probably has a v mixed intake because of the area. I've got a friend who was a governor so I'll ask her.
We love thornhill, which was always undersubscribed so you'd have had no prob getting your dd in, but I think that's all changed now (due to new unpopularity of Canonbury).
Something to bear in mind is that all Islington schools have huge amount of movement so if you're not happy with whatever school you initially decide upon then you can always find spaces elsewhere.
Also don't assume you can't go to the religious one - it might not be oversubscribed.

Thanks PollyP.
It would be interesting to hear a governors pov.
I think Thornhill is becoming more popular due to outstanding ofsted this year as well. I did try to get her into the nursery there - but no luck!
And thanks for the tip about moving schools I hadn't really considered this... It's all a bit new to me as my older dd grew up in a small town where you only had a choice of 1 or 2 primaries...
