Do you tell a Year 2 child their Sats result?

Just wondered given many Year 2 children don't even know they are being formally assessed...how many parents choose to share the results of their KS1 Sats with their kids and why?

I think most parents share but I don't know why

I've asked my DD if she wants to read her school report (which contains them) but she has declined, she isn't bothered.

No way. Just told DC I was pleased with its behaviour and the way it supported other children and concentrated and listened in class. DC has absolutely no idea about its level.

I think children don't need to know their levels until much later. A lot can change at this stage. They're already too aware of the hierarchy in the classroom.

We didn't bother at year 2, but DS has just done year 6 SATS and he knew all about the tests this time and wanted to know how he had done.

violetbloom · 12/07/2010 21:58

All of dd's friends were talking about theirs so we didn't really have a choice .

Leslaki · 12/07/2010 22:02

Violet - that's awful!! My dd has no idea she's taken them and they only give out results at the end of term so hopefully she'll still ahve no idea she's had them!

NoahAndTheWhale · 12/07/2010 23:00

I'm not intending to tell DS about them next year when he's in year 2

snorkie · 13/07/2010 01:09

I don't remember it being discussed either amongst the children or by us to the children in year 2. I do remember by year 6 a number of children were being given financial rewards for sats, so it was definitely a topic for discussion between them and rather harder to gloss over as a parent should you want to.

Not for year 2, but DD will know this week when the results are out for the Year 6 SATs as they have spent the whole year under a lot of pressure preparing for them.

asdx2 · 13/07/2010 11:05

Not for yr2 as I wouldn't think they'd be interested. As for yr 6 dd knew before I did as teacher showed them if they wanted to know before reports were issued I but would have told her anyway.

GreatTT · 13/07/2010 11:20

I asked my DD if she knew what SATs were when she got her Year 2 report. She said she had no idea, which tells me the school got it right! She did extremely well marks-wise, and I asked if she wanted to read her report, which she did. I just took out the score sheet. DD got all giggly when she read what her teacher had said about her

Smithagain · 13/07/2010 12:02

DD1 likes to read her report and asked what the levels were. So I told her and praised her for doing well (which she did), but didn't go over the top. She hasn't shown any interest whatsoever in what anyone else "got".

basildonbond · 13/07/2010 15:17

dd's teacher handed over large brown envelopes at pick-up the other day - cue dd:"what's that, can we open it? is it the SATs results?"

So yes, I told her what she'd got - she'd done extremely well, was very pleased "that means I must have spelt 'blanket' correctly, mummy! I was worried I hadn't", and hasn't shown the slightest interest in what anyone else got
